COBRA
The acronym for Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, the federal law enacted in 1986 that guarantees individuals covered by workplace-offered group healthcare insurance the right, upon employment termination (voluntary or involuntary) to maintain the policy by paying both employee and employer portions of the premium. If a spouse or family members are covered under the policy, COBRA extends to them also.
