He was in the Special Victims Unit, prosecuting sex crimes and crimes against children, and also served in the Felony, Misdemeanor and Juvenile Divisions.

Gilbert is currently the President of the Association of Family Law Professionals, a member of the Board of the Lee County Legal Aid Society and a member of the Lee County Bar Association. He is a native Floridian, born in Miami, Florida.
