Mental Health: The Power of the Made-Up Mind Can Help after the Divorce

By NANCY VOGL

Whether you're in the middle of a divorce or have already gotten one, you may want to change things about your life. When you desire to achieve something greater than where you currently are, there comes a point when you can cross over from one level of living to another. The line is indistinguishable, but the mood and energy on the other side is not. Positive thinking and vibrations are heightened, the emotions more raw, but more settled too, and the outlook ahead less hazy. Dreams and goals begin to appear in clearer focus and the light at the end of the tunnel burns brighter. This can really happen after a divorce. I like to call this phenomenon “The Power of the Made-Up Mind.”

Yesterday I crossed over that line once again. I’ve crossed over it several times before, but yesterday seemed a little bit different. I was upset over an incident that occurred, and it spurred on an uncommon determination that I haven’t felt in awhile – proving that anger can be a positive motivator at times.

I’ve discovered that nothing happens in this life unless we make up our minds, when we resolve we’re going to accomplish what we’ve set out to do. Decisions on a foundation of determination, coupled with perseverance and purpose, can produce remarkable results.

This is a simple concept, but one that falls away from us all the time, sometimes for years (as in my case). Then it might take something dramatic, a perhaps a serious life change, that shifts us into high gear. Other times, it might take a small incident – like an overdrawn checking account, or a less-than-positive conversation with someone -- to spur on that determination.

As for me, the moment I made up my mind that divorce was the only sane option, my whole world shifted and opened me up to a litany of new possibilities. If divorce has taken you in a direction that you’re not happy about, you have the power to view your circumstances any way you want to. You can focus on the negative, or you can find what is positive and take it from there.

Whatever it is that causes you to cross the line into “making up your mind,” keep that energy alive! Use the power of making up your mind to escape the land of mediocrity, to uncover talent you didn’t know you had, and to see your dreams become a reality.
