Inside Infidelity: Gift-Related Signs of Affairs

Inside Infidelity: Gift-Related Signs of Affairs

Infidelity: 8 Gift-Related Signs that your Spouse is Having an Affair

By MCCLATCHY-TRIBUNE INFORMATION SERVICES

If you think your husband might be cheating on you, Christmas is a good time to confirm what you suspect. A cheating husband can be exposed by the Christmas gift he gives the other woman, or by the gift he receives from her.

If you know what to look for before or shortly after Christmas, you can find tangible evidence if your husband is having an extramarital affair. Throughout the Christmas season, be alert for the following gift-related telltale signs:

1. Suspicious amounts of money missing from bank accounts.
If unusually large sums of money are withdrawn from your joint checking or savings accounts without your knowledge or consent, alarm bells should sound. Especially if the missing funds exceed the amount your husband usually spends on Christmas gifts.

2. Unusual or unexplained ATM withdrawals.
Many cheating husbands think they'll escape detection if they pay for the other woman's gift with cash instead of a credit or debit card. But the cash has to come from somewhere. Even ATM transactions leave a paper trail. The information on his ATM withdrawal slips may provide important clues. Check the date, time, and amount on the slip, as well as the location of the ATM machine from which the money was withdrawn.

3. Credit card statements that show unusual charges made at jewelry stores, boutiques, or women's specialty stores.
Have you found charges on your credit card statement for gift items like lingerie from Victoria's Secret or jewelry from Tiffany's? Did you or someone in your family personally receive these items for Christmas? If not, who did he give them to?

4. Receipts for gift items that you didn't personally receive.
The same thing applies to actual store receipts. If you didn't get the fur coat, the diamond earrings, or the all-expense paid vacation to a world-class spa, who did?

5. Duplicate gifts.
Duplicate gifts are usually a dead giveaway. Or a receipt for the purchase of two identical gifts. Of course, one is for you, but who does he plan to give the other one to? Many cheating husbands buy identical gifts for their mistress and their wife. Giving or receiving Christmas gifts of a personal nature to or from another woman.

6.  Certain gifts go far beyond what someone would normally give a person who's "just a friend."
Items of clothing, especially lingerie or undergarments, items that require intimate knowledge of a person's measurements or size. For example – someone other than a family member gives him silk boxer shorts, or a dress shirt that requires knowledge of his neck and sleeve size. Giving a disproportionately expensive Christmas gift to, or receiving one from a female co-worker or casual friend.

7. There are limits to how much money a person would normally spend on a gift for a business acquaintance or a casual friend.
If he's receiving things like golf clubs, an iphone, a laptop computer from someone who's a mere friend,  or giving them such things in return, there's more to their relationship than meets the eye.

8. A hidden gift that disappears.
It's a common scenario at Christmastime. As an infidelity expert, I hear it all the time. A wife finds a hidden gift that she assumes is for her. She says nothing so as not to spoil the surprise. Christmas comes and goes, the gift disappears from its hiding place, but it wasn't given to her.  Now she's left wondering who the mystery gift was given to.

These gift-related telltale signs are not ironclad indications of infidelity. However if your husband has given you reason to suspect that he's having an extramarital affair, the gift-related telltale signs you find around Christmastime can give you valuable clues about what's going on. Suspicious or unusual behavior surrounding the giving or receiving of Christmas gifts may help you fill in the blanks.

At the very least, these signs may alert you to the possibility that your marriage may be in jeopardy – especially if you've found other signs of infidelity during the year. Don't write these things off as being insignificant. Take time to check things out. The future of your marriage could be at stake.

Realize that any gift-related signs you find before or shortly after Christmas are only the tip of the infidelity iceberg. Signs of infidelity never appear in isolation. Where there's one sign, there are always dozens of collaborating signs just waiting to be found.  Since most of them will be subtle, knowing what to look for is the key.
