Mississippi
author Nevada Barr could have plenty of writing time coming up. She destroyed evidence in her divorce, and
the court is not amused.
"Destroyed"
could be a light term. According to her
own testimony, when her ex-husband's lawyer asked for her to produce her
computer because it contained evidence of an affair, Barr said she, "took
a cold chisel and a hatchet; I tore it apart; I then took all of the pieces
that were inside of it and I put them in a metal box; I burned it by pouring
gasoline over it, and I shoveled it into a plastic bag and I dumped it in a
bayou."
Confession
may be good for the soul, but in this case it could have physical and material
consequences. Prosecution has been ordered by the court to take a look and
consider penalties ranging from sanction, to criminal prosecution.
