I'm late writing. I had a full day. The well is still giving me some trouble. I will have to call the well people again tomorrow. It was really cool this morning. All the boys were waiting to be fed. The garden looks great. I can't water it because the well shuts down if I turn on a sprinkler.
Joe was a good boy in the roundpen this morning as he went round and round. I am saving some of my work for the weekend. Weekends are still difficult for me. So I will make sure I am busy.
We are definitely going into the dog days of summer. The birds are not as vocal. The wind is not as strong on my farm. Just a gentle breeze you can barely feel.
I went out to eat with friends tonight. There were four of us. The fifth couldn't make it. We all met in a Divorce Care class. Our friendship has continued outside the class. We come from different walks of life. All Southern born from different states. Only one is a local. She calls herself a "Valley Rat". We arrived at 7 and were having so much fun it took a while to order our food. The restaurant wasn't as busy as it looked. The food is always good and comes to the table too hot to eat.
These women impress me very much. This was the first time in my life I ever went out to eat with a group of women. The topics were varied: some deep and some downright funny. One has to tell us what she has found out about financing for nursing school. She is a CNA and thinks she might be too old for nursing school. She really likes taking care of sick people. She might as well go to school and get paid for her care.
The "Valley Rat" is still working on getting her divorce. The last does faux finish painting. Beautiful work. I am content with what I am doing. I am happy with my farm and my boys.
I didn't leave the restaurant until 9:30. Then a 30 minute drive home. As I pulled into the drive I saw a small herd of deer in the front pasture. They moved away from my headlights. I opened the gate and pulled in angling my truck to see the deer. I could only count 6 white tails flagged in the air as they quicky moved away. Always nature on my farm.
I think I have finally made some friends for the first time in my life. We respect each other for what we know and what we have experienced.
I'm happy for the first time in a very long time.
