Great Minds Think Alike

Drama Geek and I have made a pact to help each other live healthier lives. Though we are both health-conscious individuals, we have found certain healthy habits easy to neglect as we grow accustomed to our relationship.

For Drama Geek, the No. habit to fall by the wayside has been exercise. Before meeting me, he spent much of his free time at the gym. Now he spends it with me. We could make exercise a shared activity, but I am not a member of his gym and I don’t like to work out at the same time as him.

Fortunately for me, Drama Geek has made numerous concessions that enable me to stick with most of my healthy habits. He enjoys protein drinks with me; he now follows a lower-carb lifestyle and he makes it a point to abstain – and to help me abstain – from comfort foods.

Starting July 1, we will both make a concerted effort to further support each other’s health goals. We will eat out less, which will help me by limiting the opportunity for me to eat foods that are not on my eating plan. Eating out less also means smaller portions and reduced fat and calories – something from which we can both benefit.

Also in July, Drama Geek will start making the most of his gym membership, and I will climb the stairs at work whenever possible. The goal for me is to simply increase my activity level. The goal for him is to continue his path of weight loss. The most exciting thing to me about all of this is that we have a shared goal – something that we’re striving to achieve together rather than apart.
