I've decided and am afraid of how he will act 

Okay, I've decided to proceed with the divorce but told my attorney that I don't want him "served" by an officer.  I think that would embarrass him.  I am terrified of how he will act after I told him I am going through with it.  He is not physical but the whole emotional thing is almost as bad. 

When I'm looking forward to the days that he is going to be gone more than the days that he is going to be here, I think it's time.  I am so afraid of the unknown.

They can have a regular person serve him. According to the paperwork I got back from my atty. my ex was served at the airport (long story) by a female.
You will be fine. Making the decision is the hardest part. The unknown can be scary but you have plans for your future. My daughter is in nursing school finishing up for her RN. It is a rewarding and well paying career. Good luck
