Father-in-law had a heart attack...

I think I wrote before that this is stbx's first weekend with the kids.  And yet here I am home with them.  I'm not complaining -- there are extenuating circumstances.  Joel called this afternoon when I was at work & said that his dad had just been rushed to the hospital in an ambulance w/ what seemed to be (and was later confirmed to be) a heart attack.  FIL is 66 years old.

Because you can't really bring 2 little kids to the ICU, I offered to take the kids tonight so that he could get to the hospital.  At first, Joel said, "No - there's nothing I can do for him."  But basically I told him he had to go.  It's his dad!  And his mother was bound to be a total wreck.  So I'm glad that he could go.

On the other hand, pre-divorce papers I know that **I** would be at the hospital, too.  I've had my issues with my in-laws, especially since our drama began last summer.  But I still consider them family (I think).  It's so weird to be concerned about my father-in-law, but feel as though I'm "not allowed" to call or visit him in the hospital.  It's brought me to tears a few times already.
