Why Divorce is REALLY So Difficult
Here's the deal. I am a divorced woman who is currently living with her boyfriend. My divorce was simple. No attorneys, just the dividing of assets over coffee during lunch hour.
My boyfriend on the other hand, has been in the divorce process with his wife for nearly 4 years now. Why? The legal system.
He has an upper-middle class salary and has four children. After child support and spousal support each month, he does not have enough money left over to support himself independently. For the record, I am not opposed in the least, to the child support. However, since he has begun paying into the system, two of the four children have turned 18 and graduated from high school. Funny thing is, the support from the four has now been reallocated to the remaining two who qualify.
He has no assets aside from his car, while his wife lives in a six bedroom home, has two horses, three dogs, a swimming pool, etc. And she believes that she is owed more! We live 40 miles away from the kids, and not once has she ever made an attempt to meet us halfway during his weekend to drop them off. In fact, most of the time, she is in Maryland with her boyfriend (we are in Pennsylvania) who is the president of a company he also owns.
Pretty sweet deal, right?
With all of the support being paid out, my boyfriend can not even afford an attorney, and this could drag on forever.
Why she doesn't sell the house she's in, I have no idea. At this point, the appraisal has come in at nearly $500k.
LADIES, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOURSELVES. THIS IS REDICULOUS!
