McGreevey or McSkeevey

Here's my take on the latest about the gay gov

McGreevey claims poverty as divorce trial begins
Associated Press (AP), Posted: 5/15/2008, 5:46 AM

"The nation's first openly gay governor tried to convince the judge in his divorce case Wednesday that he's too poor to pay alimony, saying he's been financially crippled by his resignation and marital troubles. Former New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey said he has limited income and few assets, and is all but unemployable these days. "I got my furnishings at a Huffman Koos going-out-of-business sale," McGreevey said when asked to describe his belongings. He and his wife, Dina Matos McGreevey, have been separated since he left office in November 2004, three months after he said he had an affair with a male staffer and planned to resign. The staffer denies he had an affair with McGreevey and accused him of sexual harassment."

This guy is beneath contempt.  He drags his poor wife and his whole family through the mud and then refuses to pay alimony.  I would laugh it off if it weren't so typical of so many divorce cases these days, especially those affecting older women.  Alimony seems to have gone the way of the Model T-Ford in many states.  Women who never worked a day in their lives are supposed to go out and get a job, often after age 55, 60 or older.    I dont know how old  Dina McGreevey is or her job background, but chances are she can't support herself or her daughter in anywhere near the style of a governor's wife.  I see she wrote a memoir about her marriage which definitely will pay some bills.  Unfortunately most discarded wives weren't married to gay governors and don't have a scandalous tale to tell.    What are they supposed to do for a living?  They're more likely to be working at Huffman-Koos than shopping there.
