Ohio
Chief Justice Thomas Moyer accused one of Cuyahoga County's divorce judges of
resisting an investigation. Currently
the Ohio State Supreme court is investigating the county's inability to work
through divorce cases quickly and efficiently.
Chief
Justice Thomas Moyer sent an investigator to conduct interviews with the 5
county divorce judges. He hopes to
understand the problem, so that they can fix it. Currently, divorce cases are taking 2-3 times
longer in Cuyahoga than any other county.
"We've never had this problem before," Moyer said.
The
state investigator, Stephanie Hess, has tried interviewing administrative judge
Timothy Flanagan for the past 7 weeks. When a local newspaper posted an article
about the divorce court issue, Flanagan flew to Jamaica for a weeks vacation.
His office promises he'll sit down with the investigator when he returns.
It
could just be a misunderstanding blown out of proportion. That never happens in the divorce world. If it's avoidance or negligance, it's not
helping to speed up divorces in Cuyahoga County. At this rate it may be faster to move to
another county, take up residence, and then file for divorce there.
