Online dating is the digital age’s answer to blind dates, dating services, and single bars(yuck!) But, as a mom, you need to be extra careful as you enter into this arena. So here we go.
Don’t give out too much personal information until you have gotten to “know’ this person. I think this one is a no-brainer for anyone who spends time online.
Make sure that you mention the fact you have children before you schedule an in person meeting but before you give them the logistics to weed out anyone who might not want to be around children.
Never arrange your first in-person meeting at your home. If this person isn’t safe, you don’t want them to have your home address.
Meet the first few times in a public place and if possible have a friend come with you.
Use a cell phone or an anomymous phone service if you can.
Use a free email account that can’t be traced back to your home.
TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS! As moms we have great instincts. If the person doesn’t feel safe for you and your children, they probably aren’t.
Set a good example for your kids. If you wouldn’t want them online looking for a soul mate, you shouldn’t either. You’ll never be able to defend your reasons against it if they’ve seen you do it.
Be safe, have fun, and take care to protect yourself and your kids
