Just about every single parent I know has had to work more than one job at some point in order to make ends meet. My boyfriend, a former gymnast, in addition to running his store, coached cheerleading and teaches trapeze. I have a marketing company and I write on political and environmental issues for a number of publications and substitute teach dance. I also taught English as a Second Language for a year to bring in some extra cash. I have several friends that substitute teach at their local schools. Another friend, a yoga instructor, also works at Kiehls. We all do what we need to do to make sure the kids have what they need and that we can pay our bills. It is stressful at times, but also has opened up opportunities for all of us.
A great place to look for part time work and jobs that can be done from home is Craigslist (
www.craigslist.com). You can also register to substitute teach with your local school district. Stores often need extra weekend staff, so it's worth checking out. And there are lots of blogs out there that will pay for content, so think about what you are interested in or good at and contact some of the larger blogs in those categories and see if they will hire you to provide content. Think about your hobbies, too, are there things you can leverage into making money? Like to cook? What about part time catering? Like to knit? See if you can teach knitting at your local yarn store? Speak an additional language? Do some teaching. Have excellent grammar? Do some side proof reading.
The way I look at it, making ends meet is like a puzzle. All the pieces have to fit together. Your income has to at least equal your bills. What is it going to take to get you there? Figure that out and then see where you can bring in some extra cash!
