Every Notice When Mom’s Sick Everything Falls Apart?

I’ve been sick since Sunday. I won’t give you the details, because you really don’t want to know.

I haven’t worked so far this week. I’ve just been puny and in pain. I’m feeling better today, only to realize that the house has caved in around me! Can these people not pick up a glass and take it to the kitchen? Can’t they see it’s easier to empty the trash can and take it out rather than trying to balance new trash on top of the already full can and hope it doesn’t fall? And if it falls, is it really that hard to pick it up?

Wouldn’t it be easier to put your shoes away then step over them to get through the living room?(I say that one all the time, not just when I’m sick.) If there isn’t a cereal bowl in the cabinet, load the dishwasher. I’ve taught you both how.

If I’m so sick I don’t leave bed for two days, is it too much to ask for a Freshman and a Fourth Grader to pick up the slack a little bit without me yelling at them? This isn’t a single mom problem, either. At least it’s not for me.

The ex wasn’t capable of lifting a finger to heat up some soup of fix his own soda. In fact, he was rarely home. He was usually “at work” which I now know means chasing whatever female crossed his path at the time or betting on ball games or car races.

So how do you keep the house together when you’re too sick to keep it up? I thought I was raising two responsible individuals, not kids who can’t think or do for themselves or have the courtesy to help out when I need it. I need to start again at square one on this one with them. This is something I want them to carry into adulthood with them. Caring and helping, not whining that there’s no cereal bowl clean.
