Can't Split Yourself in Two!

Ah, the stress of being a single parent. So I am about to get on a flight to New York for a business trip. This means I will be missing the mandatory band meeting and back to school night. It also means finding someone to spend the night at my house and get my daughter to school by 7 am.

This sucks, but what can I do? The meeting is around a bunch of other people's schedules and could mean a lot of business for us if it goes well. So I explain to the band parent leaders my situation and I e-mail all of her teachers explaining the situation and I ask my business partner, could she do me a HUGE favor and stay at my house tonight even though she just got back from a business trip, herself and I do the single parent dance.

I have often thought life would be a lot easier if my other divorced friends with kids and I all got together and lived in a commune. Still. it wouldn't replace having mom availbale for back to school night or meeting her teachers and the parents of her classmates. But I can't split in two, despite how I might try, so back up plan it is!

I love being a mom, but when my STBX started in on me and him having kids, I laughed and stated, "Why" my freedom flag is waving buddy.  LOL  Yes, it does get easier as they get older but their schedules are what makes it demanding.  But mine started high school this year and the tears were worse this time then the first day of any other year.

Thanks! Yeah, 12 years of this and although logistics get easier as they get older, the having to miss stuff never does.

Back up plans are good but can fall through, but it sounds like you have done everything and your doing a great job.  Kudos to you.  I have been a single mom for 14 years and this is just part of life.  Things will always come up with the schedules at school so you can pick your battles on that one.  At least it is a dance and not a band concert, get someone to take lots of pictures.  Hugs
