Attorney or trust husband

Okay, if you have read any of my "info" you know I am married to a Canadian and that under Canadian law you must wait one year from date of separation to file for divorce. As you may also know my stbx is an attorney.  Currently he has me talked into letting him handle our divorce because I don't have any money for an attorney. Trust him or don't trust him...that's the big question.

Can anyone give me an idea of what an attorney cost. We don't have children together, nor any savings, we just have a house which under Canadian law he has to share half the profit from the sale of the house (which he has told me he doesn't want to do).  But as is the case in Michigan no one is buying homes. So he is living in the house with his daughter and I am living in my sister's basement.

That's all beside the point.

Any advice on legal cost..trust him or get my own attorney?
