I was so tired yesterday I didn't sleep well all night. I did manage to get up on time. The minute I walked out the door the humidity hit me. It was only 7:30. There was hardly any breeze on my farm today. So much for an early fall. It was just over a 100 degrees yesterday and today was worse. I let the wimpy shepherd Max out of his kennel and fed Callie cat.
I got on the cart to go feed the boys. When I went thru the gate to the pasture I just had to stop and admire the work we did yesterday. I was too tired to really look at it last night. Those boards I replaced on the fence made a huge difference. As I looked down the fence line every board looked straight and in it's proper place. No bulging, warped boards to look ugly. Wow, it's a nice looking fence. We did really good work.
I quickly fed the boys and loaded up with equipment to put in the trailer as I went to feed the old boy. Helmet, gloves, bridle, girth, saddle and pad all were put in the trailer. Plus side reins and whip. I feel sorry for my old horse Pokey. But he seems to be alright over there by himself. As soon as my summer boarders go home I can get him back with the others. It has been a really quiet day. I almost forgot to hook up my trailer and had to do that at 11:30 and make sure I had it in the right position to load the slug. He was going with me again. It was so hot hooking up the trailer. I hurriedly got ready to leave and went to get the slug. He was nasty and sweaty and looked totally unpleasant. But I didn't have to drag him out of the field. I couldn't get to a hose to clean him up so he left dirty. I would be able to hose him off before my lesson. Thank goodness he hopped into the trailer and off we went. It was already 97 and only one o'clock.
I forgot my half chaps and my spurs. C loaned me her chaps and I did withour the spurs. I will never forget those again. The slug was so lazy dead lice wouldn't fall off him. It took half the lesson beating him to finally get him awake and moving. He is such a good horse but he is so damn lazy. The heat wasn't helping him any either. C had to get on him and wake him up and then I did the same. He gave me a beautiful ride. The trip back home was uneventful and he was glad to be home. It was brutally hot with no wind and I have been in for the afternoon.
I desperately need to mow that front field. I put it off because of Hanna and I can't put it off any longer. First thing in the morning I will be mowing that field. The grass is getting too tall and thick. The squirrels are out running around in the grass. I am leaning to hate squirrels. They are very destructive.
It's time to go up and feed all the boys. I think I will sit on the cart and admire my work from yesterday. That fence looks really good.
