When we (my ex, oldest daughter, and a pregnant me) moved into my parents house it was 3 years ago. After 2 years of living there with no rent payment we were nowhere closer to moving out. We went further into debt because my ex barely worked and kept using my credit cards and maxed out a few. We were in the red big time and there was no hope of anything different. Then I filed for bankruptcy because of his debt, he moved out, and our divorce became final last week. I am now in my own apt and standing on my own again.
It’s amazing how once he was gone I was able to move out less than 1 year later. It is so nice not to have to worry about his financial inabilities and paying for all the things he thinks he needs. I don’t have to worry about him being out til 4 am because he is getting high or drinking.
My commute went from being at least 1 hr one way to about 15 min. My girls are at daycare a little less each day now and with me more. My girls seem to be adjusting very well. They love the new apt and my oldest is so excited to be starting her second year of preschool next week at a new school.
Who would have thought paying rent and the electric bill would feel so good? Well, a few months from now it won’t feel so good, but right now it’s great.
