What Should You Ask Yourself Before Divorce?

Making the choice to leave a spouse is a difficult one.  Nobody takes it lightly, but how do you know when it's time?  There are five things you should consider before making that choice.

First, and probably the most important, do you still love your spouse?  It should weigh heavily on whatever you decide. Next, is there anything you're withholding?  Is the reason you want out some dark secret you're afraid to share?  If so, share it before you make a choice. It may make things bad, especially at first, but once the air is clear, that can allow for healing to begin, so long as you're both willing.

Are there any problems that you can't overcome in your marriage?  Adultery, addiction, these are both things that some people can't forgive. To the other end of that question:  Is there any reason for staying together?  If your spouse has done a horrible wrong, is there a reason to repair it?

Finally, have you given the relationship every chance for success?  Have you given your all? If you quit without a positive answer to that question, you could face regret for years to come.  Make sure you've tried everything.

Nobody gets married so that they can divorce.  When you find yourself here, make sure it's the right thing before you leap.
