A
Vancouver, BC woman went before the High Court last week. She claims that her divorce lawyer over
changed her and that she shouldn't have to pay the bill. John-Paul Boyd, an executive member of the
Canadian Bar Association admits, "That bill is quite stunningly
enormous."
How
enormous? The bill was in excess of $1
million. The woman was dividing 40 years worth of collected assets and the
couple fought over each piece. It took
four years to get through the list.
The
High Court looked over the bill, but ruled that although high, it was
appropriate for the services rendered.
They took into account length of service as well as reputation of the
lawyer. Now the question is: does the
woman have enough in assets to pay the bill?
