The
evils of divorce have been argued over the ages. At best it's seen as a necessary evil. At worst it's seen as the root of evils such
as dementia, children's disorders, and global warming. Making it quicker and
easier seems wrong.
Still,
scientists have studied the effects, and believe that they have done some
good. First, although states with
"no fault" divorce seem to have their divorce rate jump, the divorce
rate drops back to the normal rate within a year, and in some case drops even
lower.
Another
effect is that there's a reduction in spousal abuse, and murders. Scientists
suggest that this is because "no-fault' divorces give the power back to
the weaker partner. They're ability to
leave without reason makes the other partner try harder to keep them. This can make borderline abusive spouses
"behave" better than they might if they held all the power.
So
is no fault divorce good or bad? Maybe
it is an evil, but it does seem from states that embrace it, it is necessary,
and eventually helpful one.
