I overslept this morning and again I was on the run when my feet hit the floor. The wimpy shepherd Max was turned out and Callie Cat was fed. As I was driving up the lane to feed I could see the lazy slug Zee had slipped his grazing muzzle off somewhere in the field again!! I fed the old boarder horse Isaac and the tank Noah. After feeding the good boy Joe and the lazy slug I fed Miss Kitty, my other calico cat. In the middle of feeding I heard the geese honking as they flew in the direction of the lake. I couldn't see them because the pines blocked my view. They do this in the fall and winter but they are a little early this year. Then I go across the farm to feed my old boy Pokey. He is doing much better since my daughter is not here trying to get him in shape.
I grab a quick breakfast and go get Zee to work in the roundpen today. The sky is heavily clouded and the breeze is ever blowing. A really nice day without the sun beating down. The lazy slug wasn't so lazy today. They are all getting their winter coats in and are sweating much easier when they work. Before I put Zee away I pull his mane to shorten it and make it look neater. Then I make him walk the field with me to find the damn grazing muzzle again! He won't get it off this time. I left his halter on and wound the fasteners of his muzzle thru the halter. He might get it off his ears but it is still going to be attached to his halter. Let's see if he can get out of that.
I picked the last of the butterbeans for supper tonight. They have been shelled and are in a pan cooking. I took the lawnmower and mowed the peas, beans, and tomaotes level with the ground to be tilled under this coming Sat. My helper wants to plant peas, mustard and turnip greens. I don't mind; he can plant in my garden as long as I get it back for spring planting.
I left for the store about 2:30, I wanted to roast a chicken for supper and needed bread, butter and the Sunday papers. As I opened the gate to leave I could see the hawks again across the road flying lazily in the sky. They were low enough to see that they were half grown and the hawk way up high must have been watching over them. There were three in the sky this time.
The Polo farm down the road was watering their polo field and the groundskeeper was mowing. He is such a hard worker. All the polo players will be back in Sept. and there will be practices and games next door. The large stock trailers full of horses will be running around like ants. Every which way. They will pass each other on the road as they hurry to their games and then home again.
There is a large craft fair in early Sept. The wide grassy medians will be full of crafts and wonderful fair food. I always like to go on Fridays because it is less crowded on that day. Then I will go back on Sat. to pick up something to eat for supper.
I still have one of the Sunday papers to read and I need to go out and pick okra to go with the beans for supper. I try to keep Sundays a lite work day unless I am mowing a field. So I need to get out the door and pick my okra so I can eat supper early.
