Is A Quickie Divorce In Missouri An Oxymoron?

The Missouri courts are backed up with people trying to get a divorce.  Some people think they can circumvent that by handling their own divorce, and get out without seeing a day in court.  The Missouri Supreme court just made that process a little more difficult.

From now on, couples seeking to divorce without a lawyer will need to go online and take an online assessment survey. From there, they may need to also take a course  on the risks of self-representation before they can file.

The court says the primary purpose is to stop couples from using online documents, since most of the ones that come through the court don't comply with Missouri law.  This is supposed to speed up the process for everyone.  We'll see, for now Missouri will offer couples plenty of time to consider reconciliation.

Wow.  I was upset when mine took 6 months of stand around time...

I filed in February and there is finally a date to go before the judge to set a court date.  But we still have to meet with the attorneys to see if we can reach some type of settlement.  This takes place a few hours after seeing the judge about getting the divorce on the docket.  Attorney's secretary says it will probably be December.  So much for the timeline I was first given.  The meeting with the attorneys has been postponed three times.
