Has counseling worked for anyone when it's down to the wire?

I've suggested counseling, even a communication class in the past to my husband, to be answered with a flat no.  Now that I'm considering leaving, he's all for it.  I'm not in love with him, although I do love him, and the whole leaving thing is making me scared even though I'm not happy. I've agreed to go to one session so that we can air our issues.  I really don't have the heart anymore to believe him, or even that we are meant to be together as a husband and wife anymore, but I guess I want to make sure that I've tried everything possible, even when he didn't.  Has anyone been tired and out of love and actually reconciled?

Thank you all! Everyone has pretty much confirmed what I was feeling.  I'm still very open to having a session with an objective party so that we can air our issues as to where we stand.  But my heart is just not there anymore.  And that's what is sad because a couple of years ago, had he even tried with me, instead of brushing me off,  I think counseling might have really helped. Like spaznskitz said, I can't just flip that switch like he wants me to, and  fall back in love.  I feel like I would be forcing myself, and I just don't think that's fair.

if the light bulb has burned out in the room of your soul where you stored the love for your husband, you can keep flipping the light switch all you want - it isn't going to turn back on again...

however, if you think it might just be a fuse - and there is still a spark that can go through the wires...give it a shot.

otherwise, it's time to just close the door until you get a new bulb
