Great Advice About How to Move On
Bonnie Russell who operates www.familylawcourts.com has some great advice for women when it comes to moving on. She says….
I’ve found women, especially therapists, have trouble forgiving themselves. They’re constantly berating themselves with “I should have seen it, known it, realized it,” followed by “I wasted XX years of my life.”
I tell them to set aside five minutes at a particular time every day and really wallow in it. Beat yourself up as much as possible for that five minutes. I’ve found people can usually only do that for less than three minutes. By three and a half minutes they’re glancing at the timer. I encourage them to stay with it because it’s so unpleasant. When the timer finally dings they’re SO HAPPY!!
I assure them these thoughts will creep back later. Later. But the good news is that when they do women happily say, “ Honey I already beat myself up over that and I’m moving on.” More importantly they act on that and do move on.
