A-Rod Divorce Heats Up

Does it seem like there's a huge divorce explosion in the celebrity world right now? Every time you turn around, someone is involved in a nasty -- and I mean NASTY -- divorce.

Now it's Alex Rodriguez, a.k.a. A-Rod, the Yankee slugger recently seen canoodling with Madonna (who herself is allegedly divorcing Guy Ritchie,- though both deny it).

Anyway, after Rodriguez's estranged wife, Cynthia, caught wind of it, she ran up charges of $100,000 on his credit card to punish him, reports the New York Daily News.

A friend said that Cynthia flew the godparents of her daughters, Dodd and Sabina Romero, and their older daughter, first-class to Paris, where they had spa treatments and ate at the best restaurants. She planned to head to Spain, where Lenny Kravitz was touring, feeding false rumors that the two were an item.

Also, Cynthia allegedly kept A-Rod from his daughters while bad-mouthing him as an absentee father. "Alex desperately wanted to see his children while she was in Paris," a friend said. "She blocked him. She said, 'You cannot see them.'"

In divorce papers, Cynthia accused the baseball player of "extramarital affairs" and called their six-year marriage "irretrievably broken." She's seeking alimony and private school for the children, claiming she tried everything to save the marriage.

Rodriguez was expected to file papers this week to keep his wife's mitts off his fortune, which includes a private jet and lavish homes in Florida and Manhattan. The couple signed a prenup in 2002 that could be contested in court.

But once again, it's the children that get caught in the cross-hairs and will probably suffer for it their entire life.

Honestly, it sickens me that lives are scrutinized to this extent.  I understand that as a famous athlete, A-Rod is a public figure and agrees to lost a sense of anonymity.  But, how far should the paparrazi and the "fans" go?   When did our society become obsessed with digging out intimate details from private relationships?  How terrible is a divorce between two non-famous people in the first place?  The embarrassment, personal insults and financial settlements are complicated enough.  I could never imagine going through this process in such a public way.  Please, Jane-Louise, set a positive example and stop commenting on the affairs of others.  Use personal experiences, or keep it classy, not judgmental.
