What's in a Name?

The New Jersey court says that a Pennsylvania based divorce mediation center must change it's name if they're going to practice in New Jersey.  The Alpha Center for Divorce Mediation has seven offices in the state that would be affected.

The court found that since the firm handled law, they needed include the lawyers names in the business title.  The Alpha Center argued that it only serves as a mediation center and assigned lawyers to help draw up paperwork, and nothing more.

Adding insult to injury, the New Jersey court said that the name "Alpha" in the title suggests that the business was the first mediation center in the state. It's not, and the court wants it changed to reflect that.

The Alpha Center is taking their case to the state Supreme Court.

Yeah, I have a feeling that either New Jersey isn't pleased with a PA firm solving their divorces, or another mediation firm is squaking to their local representative.

Seems a little silly. The court should be more concerned about the quality of the advice given, not the name.
