Do not use an agency! It will only ruin your credit further. I used to belong to a great community online (similar to this) that was focused on credit repair and maintainance. I think it was www.creditboards.com but don't quote me on that... The members there were wizes at all things credit and I was able to get mine back to par in no time. Please utilize all avenues that allow you to take care of this yourself. If you need additional help just send me a message and I'll be more than happy to tell you what I can.

Be careful using someone that says they can "take things off your credit report"...nobody can do that but the actual 3 major credit reporting agencies, and even then, it's difficult.  Go through them directly and dispute the items.  If it was done by a spouse, it might be difficult.  Will eventually have to prove you didn't allow it, and that is hard to do.  The credit companies will have to research signatures, etc.  It can take a long time.  Repair whatever you can, then find ways to improve your credit.  My ex ruined my credit, but just by never paying bills I thought were being paid, etc.  It took a long time to get my credit back, but I did it by smart management of revolving credit accounts and paying over the minimum amount and early every month.  Good Luck

yes.  you can and should call the credit card companies directly and explain everything...make sure you take his name off all cards.  also follow up with multiple letters.  you should pull your credit to check for errors.   the quickest way to handle most of this is to seek out a non profit credit counseling agency.   they can do this for either free or very low fee.  www.debthelper.com is one to check out.
