It's safe to say that it will be different being alone. Yes, some people can see the doors being opened to anew life, but as I have two small children, I don't quite see it in the same light.  I don't need freedom. I only wanted my family. Now I'm "forced" into freedom, which ironically is something I wanted before this all got ugly.

Anything you please. Take some time to take care of yourself. So something that you really have been wanting to do .
What ever you want. Don't look at it as being by your self, look at it as being free......

I can completely relate to your situation... I found out 2 weeks before relocating across the country to a new job that my wife was unfaithful and wanted to leave.  So I seriously felt alone and abandoned in my new surroundings, not knowing a soul in the area.

What finally turned the corner for me was getting back to something I really enjoyed that had been put on the back burner while I was married.  For me, that was kung fu.  But I'm sure you have certain hobbied and interests that you can now explore more freely.  Not only was it really good to finally get back into something I missed, but I met several good people in the school, made new friends, and even am starting to date someone I met there, too.

So finding something you enjoy will not only help take your mind off of things, but it will help you make new friends and maybe even meet a new romantic interest.

Best of luck

I am alone for the first time in my 50 years of life. My fear was - being alone and now I am.  I feel that I am stuck. My children and grandchildren are in this town so I don't want to leave.  I just don't know what to do with myself. The lack of energy is a problem because I get so depressed that I don't want to do anything.

Whatever the heck you want! Stay up all night, or go to bed early! Go on a trip, read a book, eat chocolate for dinner, whatever actually makes you a little bit happier. Good for you. You'll get there.
