Yesterday the California Supreme Court repealed the ban on gay marriages. The ban was voted in by the voters in 2000 and has been a bur to the state ever since.
In 2004 The mayor of San Francisco granted marriage licenses to same sex couples until the State Supreme court told him he had no authority. In yesterday's 4-3 repeal, the justices agreed that the ban was unconstitutional.
Already conservative forces are gathering forces to create an amendment to the California constitution. These are the same forces that put the ban on the 2000 ballot, and if they get the same following they had before California once again will be a marriage between a man and a woman state.
California is already imploding on downturn of the real estate market and the inability of the State government to balance a budget. An issue like gay marriage will polarize factions within the state even further, making recovery on any level nearly impossible.
If California were a couple, it wouldn't matter if it were gay or straight, it would be in the throws of a divorce.
