Many marriages in India are arranged. Anita's parents had promised her to Rajendra Singh. On April 21st they where married, and by May 9th Ragendra was dead.
What Rajendra probably didn't know was that Anita was involved in a relationship with Suman, a woman she'd known since college. The two women had worked together and lived together for several years.
At first Suman denied the charges of murder, but after Anita confessed during interrogation, Suman admitted hiring 3 gunmen to kill Rajendra. Although there are traditions to uphold, I'm sure if given the option of divorce or death, Rajendra would have chosen the non-death door.
