Would You Divorce Over Utilities?

A Malaysian rubber tapper is having trouble keeping a wife. He's currently on his third marriage, and in danger of losing it. Why?  Because his house doesn't have electricity.

His first wife left in 2004 with their son. She asked for a divorce because she couldn't live without electricity.  His second wife was afraid of the dark. A difficult problem to overcome without power.

Now he's on his third wife and she doesn't like his electricity free home either. The local power company won't power his house because the don't want to run the lines. For now, he's staying at his wife's house and commuting, but as a rubber tapper he doesn't make a lot of money, and commuting can get expensive.

In an interview he told the newspaper, “Please have some sympathy for me. My house is just one kilometre from the main road and there are other people who want to build houses nearby.  do not want another marriage to fail just because my house has no electricity."
