doing our own paperwork in MN

We are trying to keep this divorce as cheap as possible and will not be using lawyers.  We have surprisingly been able to agree on all points of our divorce (including child support) and are interested in doing our own paperwork.  One of the things I have been thinking about is using one of those online divorce sites (like legalzoom dot com) where they write up the paperwork for you according to your answers.  Does anyone have any tips about doing your own divorce or used one of those websites before?

Also-does anyone have any idea how long an uncontested divorce takes in MN?  This marriage has been hard on me for years and I am really looking forward to healing and moving on.

emerald -

are you absolutely 100% positive you have discussed everything when it comes to custody of the children? ie - what about if one of you wants to move out of state, having child(ren) around members of the opposite sex, right of first refusal, holidays, mother's day/fathers day b-days, taxes, vacations/trips out of state, extended family member events, views on punishment, calls when in other parent's care, medical.dental, extra curricular activities, college. make up time if visitation can't occur for some reason, remarriage and role of new spouse...

to name a few =)

Thanks for the tip on the website, I'll definitely check that one out.  I figure since I want this over quickly but don't usually have extra time to do things, why not use a site that does it for you?

And, yeah, I guess it would be a little awkward to ask your married friends how long it'd take them to divorce.  Better to leave that one alone and keep the friends.  :-)

Thanks for the support.

We used completecase.com.  Very simple.  There were a few errors in terms of pages that should have been filled out, but came out blank, but for the most part, very good.

As for how long, I'm not sure.  I only know a handful of people in MN, and they're all married. It seems kind of rude to ask "how long would it take you to get a divorce?" ;)  You can check with the county clerks office.  They should be able to give you a rough idea.

I'm sorry it's come to this, but I wish you the best with what you need to do.
