What is Your Favorite Divorce Song?

Music can be a great form of therapy when trying to cope with life's challenges. I know I spent a lot of time alone with my thoughts and my mp3 player when contemplating my divorce.

I was reminded of that today on my way to work. One of my all-time favorite divorce songs came on the radio. I remember Jerry Reed's "She Got the Gold Mine; I Got the Shaft" from my childhood. It made me giggle out loud when it would come on the radio, and if this morning is any indication, it still does. It offers such a 1980s view of divorce, and does such a great job of it. It's a great song.

I do wonder, however, how is it that country music artists really do make the best break-up songs?

Here are my other favorites that address the end of relationships:

1. "Hit 'Em Up Style" -- Blu Cantrell
2. "I'm Leaving" -- Beyonce
3. "You'll Think of Me" -- Keith Urban
4. "Going through the Big D" -- Mark Chesnutt
5. "Little Goodbyes" -- SheDaisy
6. "Kerosene" --- Miranda Lambert

So, what are your favorite break-up songs?

Miranda Lambert's "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" album seems to be chock-full of great ones. I haven't been listening to the radio much lately so I'm a little out of the loop on the new stuff. Anything out there worth mentioning?

The absolute best in my humble opinion is " I'm Moving On" by Rascal Flatts. Let me know if anyone agrees after hearing the lyrics,

The Dance by Garth Brooks....just as the song says I would never take it back even if I knew the outcome.  I would do it all again because if I only got two great things out of my marriage then so be it.....they were my sons and I would not trade them for the world.  They worth and still are worth all of the pain that I deal with now in my divorce where my husband cheated on me with our youngest son's daycare teacher.

I thought of another one, "I hate myself for loving you!" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts--that's an oldey but a good one.  Here's some more:  "All Out of Love" by Air Supply, "Cryin'" by Aerosmith, "Does He Love You" by Reba McEntire, "The Dance" by Garth Brooks, "Don't Know What You Got Until It's Gone" by Cinderella, "Don't Speak" by No Doubt, "I don't care anymore" by Phil Collins, & "You Were Mine" by the Dixie Chicks.

"I don't wanna be in love", by Good Charlotte.  This song sums it up for me.  Listen to the lyrics and you'll hear how things have baked down for me.  It's an upbeat song that will give that little lift you need every now and then.

I have a few tear-jerker songs that I think will qualify as divorce songs. One is "There's no easy way to break somebody's heart" by James Ingram, 2) All by Myself by Eric Carmen,3) I  can't make you love me by Bonnie Raitt, 4) Goodbye my Lover by James Blunt 5)He ain't worth missing by Toby keith. Have a good one!

Good stuff, Freedom. Come back when you have more to add and post them!

Cheating songs. Now, 111, that's a whole different subject. I'll post a separate question for that one...because I have an ENTIRE LIBRARY of cheating songs I love to listen to...don't forget to post there as well.

I love the movie The Wedding Singer!!  It has alot of good songs in it and I love Adam Sandler to!  I think that song love stinks sums it all up, but I thought of another one - "Irreplaceable" by Beyonce or "You Give Love A Bad Name" by Bon Jovi.  Or "Not Gonna Cry" by Mary J Blige, I need to think a little more for some other good ones!  This is fun!

Drama Geek just weighed in with his vote: "Song for the Dumped" by Ben Folds. After he played it for me last night, I assured him that if things went downhill between us, I would gladly return his black T-shirt. Since the only shirt of his is gray, that's a safe promise to make.

But that got me to thinking of other fun songs. I swear, I might be having more fun with this question than the rest of you. Remember Eamon's "I Don't Want You Back"? It sounds like a sweet love song, but it's definitely not. Or "Love Stinks" by J. Geils Band. "The Wedding Singer" brought that song alive for a whole new generation when it came out. But my favorite from that movie is Sandler's original composition, "Somebody Kill Me."

All right...enough from me and my twisted sense of humor. Any other great break-up songs out there?
