Statistics show that people who wait to get married fare better when it comes to marriage. This may be the reason behind the latest divorce statistics out of Korea.
In a report released by the National Statistical Office, the divorce rate for young adults has gone up about 50 percent since 2000. Young males between 15 and 24 are divorcing at a rate of 48.3 per 1,000 marriages. In the same aged women, the divorce rate is 50.8.
These figures make up the bulk of the national divorce rate. It is interesting to see that the group the 15-18 year olds in the young adult bracket. It also helps explain the divorce rate. According to the NSO office, young brides are migrating to Korea in large numbers.
There appears to be something to be said for waiting until you're older to get married, and probably not to a younger person.
