With all the celebrity divorces, you'd expect California to be the biggest divorce state in the US. It's not. By last figures, it doesn't even fit in the top ten. There are several counties that keep close to the national average of a 50 percent divorce rate.
If you look over the latest data (2005), Sacramento, San Diego, San Bernardino, Fresno, Riverside, Kern, Ventura, Los Angeles, Santa Clara and Contra Costa counties are the top ten for divorces. It's a dubious honor, and rather shocking to see the higher divorce rates in Central California (Fresno and Kern), and the Inland Empire (Riverside and San Bernardino) than the Los Angeles and Ventura areas.
So although the stars may be more noticable, if you look at the divorce rates for where they live, they're not any worse at keeping marriages than the rest of us.
