How do I tell him and protect the kids

I want a divorce with every part of my being.  School doesn't let out until the end of June, but every day is a struggle.
Can I tell him now or do I wait until the kids are out of school??
I am 99% sure that we are going to put the house on the market and move.  I am afraid to wait and have every thing still in limbo when the kids start school in the fall.
I don't know what to do.

I think you should go ahead and tell him and if you both decide to wait and tell the children later that would be great. Yes i am pretty sure your children know the there is something wrong with mom and dad, so don't be surprised if they come up with something like its about time or whatever. It will be better to live apart than a unhappy home.
Good luck on your decision.

it's may, it will take longer than when the kids are out of school to get the process going anyway - might as well sit down and talk to him about it now - and figure out together what the best course of action is when it comes to the children.

I am sure that the kids know that we aren't on great terms, but I don't think that they are going to see this coming.
My stbx knows that I have wanted out for awhile and have asked for a divorce once before.
This time, there is no going back.  I am getting off of this roller coaster of a life.

I think I would tell him now but request that you wait to tell the kids. He may opt not to wait but  I would be willing to bet anyway that the kids know there are problems. It is hard to hide it from them.
