will my boys despise me for giving up

My wife filed for a seperation 4 months ago. This devestated me and I have since been doing all I can to keep the marriage together. We have two boys, one is 7 and the other is 3. Every day the oldest tells me not to give up on his mom, he does not want a broken home. Emotionally I cannot do it anymore, I am completely drained. I have told my wife that I am done trying. Will my children despise me for giving up?

no they will not despise you. when they are a little older they will understand. right now you both need to sit down and explained at their level of understanding that mom and dad are not happy anymore the way things are. yes they will cry and may not really know all the issues that will come from a divorce. You both need to make sure you will love them always and will always be in their lives. whoever leaves try to make all or visitations because they will be hurt and it will upset the household. it is better to give up than make your children miserable. I am from a bitter home and it was terrible for all of us. now days i realize it made me more upset than i new. i still get an upset stomach every time their is any yelling or fighting around me and I am 51 years old. yes as you can see there are many issues not thought about when families have problems.

No - every child wants their family to stay together - they aren't old enough to understand the complexities of adult relationships. It truly is better for children to be FROM a broken home instead of IN one.

I would hope that you and your stbx would sit down with your boys together, and let them know this is a mutual decision - and that the two of yu love them very much and that it doesn't change how you feel about them, and you promis to be there for them.

then I would hope you & your stbx come to a good custody agreement, 50/50 maybe?

get the kids into counseling if they show signs of stress.

take a look at my profiles under the journals and read the children's bill of rights.
