Hey Trisha, I thought from your posts that you love the farm. If that's the case, why sell it? You have 5 years, so a lot could happen in that time. I'm thinking of, and envying, the asparagus here.

I'm sure spaz is right, it's that way in NC as well. It's one of those laws that makes me angry, though. Why should he get off if I get married? Did I or did I not give up my career for him? I did. Therefore, since my earnings power, should I ever be able to get a job, is negatively impacted for the rest of my life, why does it matter if I have a husband? It's a holdover from other times.

What about when an ex-husband never pays child support or alimony in the state of Indiana? I have been legally separated since July 2008, and we've not seen a penny of the court ordering. I'm told that it could take up to a year before the ex is pursued by law and possibly arrested. Any thoughts?

Again, couldn't find a spot on this site to just write a message, but thanks for your response to my question. I am glad to know that  I am not the only one going through this.  Thanks for your advice to be carefull too-I am-that is part of the hard part.  Trying to repair a marriage when there is so little trust and respect-you can't just "start over" when trust and respect have been smashed to smithereens. I hear what you are saying about not staying being necissarily "right".  I just feel that there is a difference in not staying in a marriage because I don't feel safe, and not staying because it is too hard.  Right now, I feel safe with him-I am just trying to spend some time and see if the "safe" feeling will stick.  He sounds like he is remorsefull and says all the right words of how wrong he is, but then he starts with all the stuff I did.  I know I made mistakes, believe me, I have issues too; but it is hard to accept that he has REALLY changed when he still spends so much time focusing on the problems of others instead of his own.  Thanks for letting me bend your ear-I feel a little less lonely right now.

Thanks,
That's what I thought and as I intend to die single my ex will just have to pay for the next 5 years.

marriage trumps the farm sale - your ex is not required to support your new husband.
