We all know he stereotypical story abut men being driven by their libidos. The concept that men will follow their sex drive from puberty to their deathbed is just that: a stereotype. And as the roles between husbands and wives shift, the results are becoming more obvious, and leading to divorce.
It used to be that husbands were expected to be bread winners and that was all, but in today's "soulmate" age men are expected to providers, doting husbands, and sensational lovers.
The reality is that men's libidos are subject to the same whims of stress and nature as women's libidos. This is leading more and more couples to divorce. As one wife explains, "I asked [my husband] if he wanted to fix the problem but he said he wasn't bothered and that at 43 he has had more than his 'share' of sex. This absolutely crucified me, especially as I'm not yet 30."
Just because the male libido is waning, doesn't mean you should give up. Find the source, and you can correct the problem. Relationship psychologist Patricia Boynton says, "Don't buy naughty knickers and sex toys. Women often try to fix the bedroom first, when that's rarely the cause ... the best start is to tell him. Ask if there's anything he wants to talk about and tell him you miss it - tell him that you're frightened."
