Advice

It has only been 6 days since my husband of 31 years left, but it feels like an eternity. I know it is not logical but I want a quick 'fix' to my emotions.

I was married for 22 years - to a minister, no less, and he toldme one day he no longer loved me and in fact, he didn't even love me. He said many hurtful things. We had just moved away from everyone and I felt so alone and lonely and I too, wanted a "quick fix."  There is not one and ultimately you wouldn't want it if there was.  Take this time to love yourself. I found so much freedom in moving furniture like I wanted it and redecorting my bathroom so that it looked very "girlie" - complete with a pink rug and flowers! Eat ice cream for dinner, and enjoy getting to know yourslef first. I flet like I needed to "hang on" for my kids but I have learned the last few months that I am a much happier person without him and my kids see it, my family sees it, my friends see it, and even "our" friends comment about the new and improved me. Oh there were dark days, full of tears and days when I felt like my heart was broken into a million pieces but slowly it joins back together and you will be stronger and happier! Relish in the good days and hang on tight on the tough days!!!

take a few days to mourn the possible loss, get angry  and use that energy to make what was the marital bedroom YOUR bedroom.  Change the way the furniture is situated or better yet, buy new bedroom furniture, get new curtains, make YOUR bedroom as totally feminine as you want it to be.  This helped me tremendously,,, i had no memories of him in our bed (i bought a frightfully expensive bedroom set and donated ours to the local goodwill).  I have changed each room in the house (he has been gone 2 years almost) and the house looks totally different from what it used to be when it was ours. & honestly the projects felt good and i am happier than ever...good luck!

there are no quick fixes, but there are sensable things you can do to help yourself - such as counseling...
