There are things we see in other people that attract us. A lot of times it's their perspective on things, or their world view. It's the difference that draws us. That can be the attraction between people in different cultures, but does it last?
A release from the Korean National Statistical Office, reported that although divorce between Korean couples is down, divorce between cross-cultural couples is up for 2007. A total of 8,828 divorces were filed by cross-cultural couples last year; that's up 40.8 percent from 2006. Where as divorce is down 2.5 percent among Korean couples.
Although the total is down, the number of divorces was still over 100,000. Now the important question is: Does the divorce come from the difference between the husband and wife, or is it from the pressure of one spouse trying t assimilate into a foreign culture? Opposites may attract, but can they form a lasting bond?
