Limiting Activities When your Child is with the Non-Custodial Parent

My 14 year old daughter sees her dad one weekend a month if that (he lives in the same state, but a 5 hour drive away. He usually arrives Saturday morning and leaves Sunday evening. During that weekend, she has dance on Saturday for several hours and flute rehearsal on Sunday for a couple of hours. On the one hand, it cuts into her time with her dad, on the other hand, should she have to drop everything when he comes? Do your kids keep their regular activity schedule when they are with the non-custodial parent?

Thanks for the input. Is that still true if one parent has full legal and physical custody?

If the activities were in place before the divorce - the non-custodial parent has to accomodate them.

if you scheduled these activities after or during the divorce, without consulting the non-custodial parent, it wasn't fair to him or right on your part. You would be required by the court if it was brought up to have to change the child's activities to be scheduled during your parenting time, or cancel them if he objects to his time being taken.

that is the downside to being divorced with children...kids end up getting the short end of the deal when the parents don't get along.
