Is it wise to use one lawyer for our divorce?

My husband and I agreed to separate 3 years ago.  Last summer I moved out and our 16 year old daughter lives with me.  We have always kept separate bank accounts and have agreed on everything about who gets what.  Is it wise to use one lawyer for an amicable divorce?  He is currently not paying any child support and I have gone through all my inheritance money and it is time for him to help.

It's ok to use the same lawyer if you're trying to save money.  The problem is this:  Who writes the check to this lawyer?  His loyalty is to his paycheck.  If he's "your husbands lawyer" you may not be getting what's appropriately yours.  Be careful.

If you're completely in agreement, and this is a simple divorce you might try completecase.com.  it's an online divorce service. It asks questions, much like turbo tax, and then prepares your paperwork for printing.  They do take care of things like child support and custody.  The nice thing is that both of you know exactly what the paperwork says, and it's only a couple hundred bucks.

I just worry that you arent getting advice thats good for you only, someone is weighting the pros and cons and then indicating the way to go - isnt that what a judge does?

Thank you.  The lawyer said it would be cheaper that way and since we do agree on everything I thought that too.  But I will be very careful.  My only concern is that hepays child support and since NYS mandates an amount there should be nothing to discuss there.  Have a great day and thank you for your response!

really depends on how amicable things are here i think.  if you agree on everything possible, i guess it would work. just be very aware about what you are signing.
