these are the situations divorcing people get into that are the prime reasons why we as divorce lawyers stress to not date or move on with your life until the divorce is FINAL. You two have created a HUGE mess - the home is only supposed to have marital property in it, not all your stuff. You have seriously compromised the divorce process. It isn't supposed to be a list of his hers and hers.
Get as much of your stuff out of the house as possible before the appraisal. PS - and yes the towels will matter if his ex is vindictive enough to fight over them...

(all that said, i agree with you - id be nervous - videotape / take pics of everything before he arrives - im not a lawyer, but id focus on the bigger stuff, i wouldnt sweat the towels.....)
