I'm not the homewrecker!! Please help us!! Appraise what?

I am currently living with my boyfriend who has been going through a horrendous divorce. (I am not to blame for the divorce!) He now has to hire an appraiser in order to settle property division. We have furnished the entire house with mostly my belongings. I still have numerous household items stored in our garage, ie: oven range, fridge/freezer, entertainment center, etc. We have been told that everything in the house will be appraised and that he will have to "star" his items. Would it be in our best interest for me to sell some of my items or store them elsewhere? Does anyone know anything about this process?  They have very little property that is worth much of anything.  Their most expensive item is a pop-up camper valued around $3,000.  Being that 95% of this household is my stuff, I am afraid that this all-inclusive list will be quite deceiving to the judge, even with his starred items. Does this mean that an appraiser will literally be counting bath towels? This has become ridiculous.  Any information would be helpful.  Thank you!

these are the situations divorcing people get into that are the prime reasons why we as divorce lawyers stress to not date or move on with your life until the divorce is FINAL.

You two have created a HUGE mess - the home is only supposed to have marital property in it, not all your stuff. You have seriously compromised the divorce process. It isn't supposed to be a list of his hers and hers.

Get as much of your stuff out of the house as possible before the appraisal.

PS - and yes the towels will matter if his ex is vindictive enough to fight over them...

oct15,

Thank you so much, you made me smile during this stressful time!  We live in Wisconsin.  I like your idea of video taping everything, thanks!  I thought I might even have to provide pictures from the past just to prove which items are mine.  We never seem to know what game or lie she will play next that we will have to diffuse.  Thanks for the much needed encouragement! :)
