claiming day care exspenses

Thanks in advance to the quick reply and helpful info.  I recently went through a devoice and ordered to pay 40% of the childcare exspenses.  Ex- is primary parent and also gets to decide where the 2 kids go to day care.  We each have it in the order to claim one child.  Fisrt child's care is over 10K and the 2nd over 5K. Can I claim the 2nd child's day care?  Thank you again for you assistance.

I have a Finace degree, but it's been awhile since I've delt with tax issues.  I'm fairly certain about the first part of my answer but I'd recommend that you have some professional do your taxes.

Child care expenses are allowed to be itemized on tax returns.  This only helps if your total itemized deductions are greather than your standard deduction.  The piece that I am not sure about is, if you can claim your portion of the child care expenses for rthe child that you are not claiming as a dependent.  I hope this helps.  If anything, now you know what questions to ask a professional.
