Divorce? Separation?

I have written about a friend of mine before, but now she (his soon to be ex-wife) has come up with something new. He had her served over a month ago with divorse papers, and she waited to the day before the cut off day to "reply", then she countered with wanting to just get a seperation. She has always said that she would hold the divorce up for 10 yrs., in order to keep him from marrying again. Can this happen? He's stressing because he just wants child support, custody, and the divorce settled. If she has been cheating on him, which started 3.5 yrs ago, then why is she not wanting to get on with her life? I don't know what to say to him about this. Any ideas? What can he say to her that will make her wake up?

I would simply continue on the path he's on. It sounds like she's not ready to give him up yet. He needs to put some emotional distance between himself and this woman or her actions will continue to weigh on him. The best way to get through it is to live his life as well as he can. The rest will come in time.
