house and the x

i am divorced..my x was suppose to do a quick deed on house...we r both on the deed but he is on mortgage..i have lived in the house since we signed papers in 1989..i want his name off..help

I would consult a lawyer.  I'm pretty certain that the only way to secure the house in your name only is to refinance the mortgage in only your name.

When I divorced, ex signed the quit deed in front of the mortgage closers when I refinanced.  Even though you live in the house and were given posession in the divorce, if you default he is still responsible and if he can catch it up, he can have it.  Refinancing is the only way to make it fully yours.  Talk to your lawyer or call a real estate attorney.  hth
