Whats Going to Happen

My wife has decided that we both just need to go our separate ways. I am currently the only one work and supporting us. We have one son and I don;t intend to make a battle for custody because with my job I am somtimes at work for 12 to 16 hours at a time. She is attending school, due to graduate in May. With our current financial situation we have virtually no assets. She has already said she does not want the house only a few things out of it. My question is how 'financially' is this going to effect me?
The house is not much. We are renting to own from our landlord.I currently have no pension because I am young and just haven't started one yet. We live in Tennessee, with one son age 1. She has said she wants nothing, child support is a given of course. When she is done with school she will be a registered medical assistant. Assumable she will be making about the same if not me than me within the next 6mo. Our only true assets we still owe on, the house, and both vehicles. Thats really the only major things we have.

This sounds fairly simple if you split everything down the middle.  Is her name on your lease/mortgage?

I just concluded the most lopsided property settlement of my career. She walked away from half of a six figure marital estate, spousal support (alimony) and she doesn't even want to alternate the tax deduction for the children. She only asked for a 5th wheel (value $14k)and security deposit in the park where she now lives. I was stunned the Judge didn't even call them in to verify this was the deal.

So, in answer to your question Chris, give me more info. You say you don't have much so the short answer is divorce won't affect you much. Then you say you have a house.  but she will give it to you. Do you have a pension? Which State do yo reside? Does she want alimony? How many children do you have? What are her job prospects after graduation?
